Bheki is the founder and managing member of Mabedlana Group
and Khasanathi Group. He was until the end of October 2009
the Senior Manager at MTN (SA) responsible for Enterprise
Risk Management. His portfolio included the implementation
of enterprise risk management, insurance risk management,
project risk management, business continuity management
and crisis prevention. During his tenure he was involved
in a number of projects but three can be singled out as
being major projects (billing system, information systems
outsourcing and acquisition of another company) where he
provided risk management input to the project team, to Exco,
and Audit Risk and Compliance Committee. He also facilitated
risk workshops throughout the business and assisted management
in determining the top ten operational risks, and updated
the top ten strategic risks, and reported these key risks
to quarterly to the Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee.
Bheki also formed part of the team that was tasked with
determining the risk appetite for the MTN Group, as well
as provided input into the toolkit for business continuity
management.
Prior to joining MTN, he was an Associate
Director at Indyebo Consulting, which specialized in internal
audit, risk management, compliance, financial management,
training and management consulting, and his main responsibilities
were business development, service delivery across all areas,
and human resources management.
Prior to joining Indyebo Consulting, he
was the head of the Audit, Risk and Compliance division
at the National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC) where
his key deliverables were amongst others, implementing the
ERM process, facilitating the identification, monitoring
and regular reporting of top 10 risks, development and execution
of the audit plan, implementation of the compliance framework
and quarterly reporting to the Audit Risk Committee. One
of Bheki’s highlight at the NHFC was his involvement
in the Business Process Re-engineering exercise, undertaken
as part of changing the NHFC business model from wholesale
to retail banking. He also significantly improved the reporting
of key risks and compliance issues to the Audit Risk and
Compliance Committee.

Whilst at the Johannesburg Development
Agency (JDA), which is one of the municipal entities of
Joburg Metro Council, he was responsible for amongst others,
the outsourced internal audit function, enterprise-wide
risk management, compliance, and Occupational Health and
Safety audits at the development sites, implementation of
the council’s EPWP initiative at JDA, insurance and
disaster management. Most of his functions required of him
to constantly to engage with various departments and committees
of the Joburg Metro Council.
Bheki currently serves in the Johannesburg
Zoo Audit Committee, and has previously been a member of
the Education and Technical Committee of Institute of Risk
Management SA. His other involvement with Board Committees
was at KZN Wildlife, Johannesburg Development Agency and
National Housing Finance Corporation where he reported functionally
to Audit and Risk Committees.
Bheki has over the years carried out presentations
internally to staff, on Fraud policy and prevention plan
(KZN Wildlife, NHFC), Procurement policy and procedures,
and Operations procedures manual (JDA), risk management
workshop facilitation (KZNW, JDA, MTN). Whilst at the NHFC,
he provided risk management and compliance training to the
Head of Risk Management of the Rwanda Housing Bank, and
in 2008 he was a guest presenter on risk management to the
ERM Africa Conference.
In 2008, Bheki founded the ARC Forum (www.arcforum.co.za)
whose main aim is to provide career guidance and career
development support to learners and young professionals,
respectively. This initiative is currently a key corporate
social responsibility project for Bheki’s companies.
Whilst at Deloitte, Bheki was the chairperson of Project
Siyakhula Accounting, a corporate social responsibility
project responsible for providing career guidance and extra
Accounting lessons to Grade 11 and 12 scholars. This passion
for youth development started at an early age when he became
the Sunday school teacher, visited his former high school
as a university student, and tutored learners from high
schools close to his university.
